BELIZE'S MUSICAL SOUL

The Belize Music Project aims to document and celebrate the rich musical heritage of Belize while reconnecting younger generations with their cultural roots. Key initiatives include comprehensive research on the evolution of Belizean music over the past 100 years and the establishment of a music archive for public access.

By 2025, the project will produce a new album featuring 12 innovative tracks that honour Belize’s musical traditions while embracing modern sounds. Additionally, a multi-format music box set titled “100 Years of Music in Belize” will be created, showcasing 100 significant historical recordings alongside a publication detailing musical milestones, artist biographies, and historical photos.

Educational programs  will engage youth in Belizean music, while collaborations with contemporary artists will reinterpret traditional songs for modern audiences. The project will utilize digital platforms to promote global appreciation of Belizean music.

A Belize Music Museum will be developed to offer an immersive experience, and cultural diplomacy initiatives will strengthen international ties with music institutions.

The Belize Music Project operates under the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) in collaboration with the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) and various partners, including the Belize Archives and Records Service, the University of Belize, and the Belize National Library Service and Information System, musicians, families and the diaspora.
